Signed and dated T.Wheeler 1835
In the original gold locket, the lid guilloché engraved and in the centre with the initials CM under a Continental baron’s coronet, the reverse with handwritten inscription on a label under glass “painted by / Wheeler / 55 Regent / Quadrant /July 1835” and surrounded by a border of forget-me-not flowers in watercolour
Aperture 5.5cm x 4.5cm, overall length including suspension loop 9.2cm
T. Wheeler exhibited as a “Miniature Painter” at the Royal Academy every year from 1817 to 1845. His address is given as 184, Fleet Street. However, another exhibitor, Miss M.A. Wheeler (afterwards Mrs. David Johnston) Painter, who exhibited in 1834 and 1835, is listed with the address 55, Regent Quadrant . She may be his daughter.
